1. I need to dig in my yard. How do I get my utilities marked?

State law requires anybody excavating to call Ohio Utility Protection Services (OUPS) at (800) 362-2764 or dial "811" for underground utility locations. Within 48 hours, OUPS will locate all underground utilities near the proposed work site to ensure you avoid them.

2. How do I report unsafe road conditions after work hours, weekends, or holidays?

Call the Police Dispatch at (937) 645-7300 and they will contact the on-call representative for the Streets Division.

3. Can I make an anonymous complaint?

You may contact the Public Service Department at (937) 645-7350 with an anonymous complaint, but please be specific of the address and problem.

4. How do I report that a manhole cover or storm drain cover is off?

You may report any sewer cover issues to the Public Service Department by calling (937) 645-7350 during normal working hours or contacting the Police Department at (937) 645-7300 at anytime.

5. Who cleans graffiti off the sidewalks, streets or park facilities?

You may report graffiti concerns by calling (937) 645-7350 or by email.

6. How do I report a guardrail problem?

You may report any guardrail issues to the Public Service Department by calling (937) 645-7350, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm or by email.

7. Will the City remove a tree from City right-of-way in front of my property?

Yes, the City will remove all dead, dying, diseased, or hazardous trees from the right of way. You may report this issue to the Public Service Department by calling (937) 645-7350, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

8. If a City right-of-way tree needs to be trimmed, what do I do?

You may report any trees of concern to the Public Service Department via email or by calling (937) 645-7350, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

9. How do I discard an appliance?

Appliances are picked up on your normal trash day. Please have item out by curb by 6 a.m. There is no charge for this service. If you would like to call and let us know when item will be out for pickup, please contact us by phone (937) 645-7350 or via email.

10. When does the City pick up loose leaves?

The leaf vaccum equipment operates from mid-October through the last week of December, weather permitting. Leaves must be bagged from January 1st through September 30th in paper biodegradable bags and set out at the curb on your normal trash day by 6:00 A.M. 11. How do I report missed refuse (trash) collection?

If you trash has erroneously not been collected, please call the Public Service Department at (937) 645-7350.

12. What time should I set out my refuse (trash) and recycling for collection?

Refuse and recycling should be set out by 6:00 a.m. on the day of collection or the evening prior to your pickup day.

13. Does the City collect loose grass?

No, loose grass must be bagged in bio-degradable, paper bags and set out at the curb by 6 am on your normal trash collection day.

14. What is the purpose of putting brine solution on the streets before a snow or ice storm?

The brine helps prevent snow or freezing rain from bonding to the pavement. The brine also aids in theremoval of hard snow or ice packs from forming during or after a snow/ice event.

15. Where should I park a vehicle during snow storms?

One of the main obstacles for equipment operators during snow plowing is parked vehicles. Once the snow begins, please remove your vehicle from the street or cul-de-sac until the roads are cleared will allow the operators to better do their job.

16. How do I report a damaged traffic sign?

You may report a damaged traffic sign to the Public Service Department by calling (937) 645-7350, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

17. Can trees be planted in the City right-of-way (public boulevard)?

A permit is required for planting trees within the City right-of-way due to potential safety hazards. Certain types of trees are also prohibited. For more information or clarification on the location of the right-of-way line, please contact planning and zoning department at (937) 645-7350.

18. Who do I contact to repair playground equipment in City parks?

20. How do I report a stopped up storm drain?

Public storm sewer issues are handled by the Stormwater Division. Please call (937) 645-7350 between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday to notify our staff and begin the process of evaluating the issue.

21. What are the regulations for signs within the right-of-way?

In no case shall the signs be placed on public property including but not limited to city parks, rights-of-way, street signs (including stop signs) or utility poles.

22. What is the flood elevation in my neighborhood?

Regulated flood elevations are established by mapping from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Copies of the FEMA Flood Maps are available from the Engineering Division. Please call us at (937) 645-1029 to obtain this information.

23. Who do I call if my sewer line is plugged or running slow?

Sometimes it is difficult to determine if a sanitary sewer backup is caused by a blockage on the City public sewer main (typically at the street) or the homeowner’s private sanitary lateral (the pipe connecting the house to the City main). If you are not sure, please contact the Wastewater Collection Unit at (937) 645-7344 to help determine the cause of the problem. There is no charge for this service.

The City will correct any problems in the City main. The homeowner is responsible for any blockages in the private sanitary lateral.

24. Who is responsible for removing dead animals?

Dead animals that are on the City streets or the portion of the highway (US 33) that is located within the City limits will be removed by the City. You can report the dead animal by email or by calling (937) 645-7350. Removal of animals that are located on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.

25. What is the flood elevation in my neighborhood?

26. How do I find out which streets are scheduled for repaving?

The public “Street Resurfacing Program” is handled jointly by our Streets Division and Engineering Department. Please call (937) 645-7350 between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday to obtain more information regarding the future repaving schedule.

27. Who can help me find my property lines so I can build a fence?

Residents should locate their property lines (delineated via property monuments at all property corners) prior to installing fences to avoid encroachments onto adjacent properties. The City cannot locate property corner monuments on private property but can provide any information currently on file for your property. If no pins are present, residents are encouraged to hire a licensed land surveyor to complete land surveys or locate property corners.

28. Where can I drain my swimming pool?

The City allows residents to drain pools into the storm sewer system if the pool water does not contain excessive chemicals that can damage downstream lakes and rivers. Water chemicals should be balanced (with the chlorine content below 1ppm) before draining into the storm sewer system. The flow of water should be controlled to prevent damage or flooding to nearby properties.

29. Where can I get a copy of property plats or easements for my property?

Property plats, deeds and easements are recorded with Union County Recorder’s Office. You may consult their website to potentially find the information you are looking for.

30. Who do I contact regarding sight distance (i.e. roadway visibility) issues?

A sight distance issue occurs when a visual obstruction (i.e. tree, sign, hill, etc.) is located at or near a street intersection. To report a sight distance issue, please contact the Engineering Department at (937) 645-7350.

31. How do I apply for a right-of-way permit?

Private utility companies installing new utilities or maintaining existing utilities within the public right-of-way need to apply for a Right-of-Way Permit. A scaled drawing showing the locations of facilities and proposed improvement must be submitted with the application. The drawings must show dimensions to adjacent landmarks such as the road edge or right-of-way. Please contact the Engineering Department for more information regarding this topic at (937) 645-7350.

32. What can be done to alleviate drainage problems caused by my neighbor’s downspouts?

Sump pump discharge and drainage should drain either into the roadway curb and gutter or directly into the storm sewer. The City has instituted a Stormwater Lateral Program which provides existing properties with a location for direct connection to the storm sewer. Note: Sump pumps and storm water may not be connected to the sanitary sewer system.

33. What can be done to fix troublesome areas that flood regularly?

First, check to see if the adjacent inlet (i.e. catch basin, curb inlet, culvert, etc.) is blocked. If you are unable to clear the debris, please contact the Street Maintenance Division at (937) 645-7350. If there is a larger problem, please contact the Engineering Department at (937) 645-7350 to better determine the cause of this issue.

34. How do I have street signs removed, replaced or installed on my street?

To request a new traffic control sign or changes to traffic control signs, residents must send a written request to the City Engineer describing the requested signage and actions. The Engineering Department will then analyze the situation and determine the next step.

35. Who can I talk to regarding drainage issues?

Residents should call (937) 645-7350 regarding drainage issues within public property, private property, streets, parks or water bodies.

36. How do I determine if sewer or water connection charges are due?

Sewer and water connection charges apply to new structures constructed on vacant property that connect to the public utility system. Connection charges are also applied to existing homes that are converted from a private well or septic system onto the City Utility system.

38. Who is responsible for repairs to the public sidewalk?

Sidewalks adjacent to private property and/or along a public street in Marysville are the responsibility of the property owner.
