I am building a new structure. How can I determine my System Capacity Charges (Tap Fee)?: Water Capacity Fees shall be assessed for water service based on the water meter sizes as stated in City Ordinance 925.02.

1. What if I have an emergency after the utility office is closed?: Normal business hours are 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Should a water related emergency occur during those hours, call the Utility Office at (937) 645-7350. Should a water related emergency occur during the evening, weekends, or holidays, call (937) 645-7384. The Division of Water has personnel on call at all times to respond to your emergency.

2. Why do I need a backflow preventer?: Backflow prevention devices are required by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) and reiterated by City Ordinance in order to protect the city's distribution system from cross contamination sources that could occur downstream of the water meter. All commercial/industrial water users and properties with irrigation systems are required to have a proper backflow prevention device installed on their service lines. The City has contracted with BSI Online to assist with State required cross-connection/backflow tracking regulations. 3. What is the box attached to the side of my house?: The Division of Water maintains one small electronic box that is attached to the side of your residence for the purpose of obtaining water meter readings. This unit is called a remote transmitting unit (RTU). The RTU allows us to obtain your water meter reading without having to go inside your home.

4. Where is the main shut off valve for my water service?: Typically the shut off valve or curb stop box is located in the tree lawn (the green space between the curb and sidewalk in front of your residence). Other locations include: in the sidewalk; just behind the sidewalk; in the drive approach; or in the driveway. The shut off valve box has a 4-inch diameter steel lid with a hexagonal-sided bolt in it. It is important to keep your curb box exposed for access purposes.

5. Where is my main water valve in case I need to turn my water off?: Usually the main water valve is located where the water supply pipe enters the structure. The location varies but is normally in the basement, a utility room, or crawl space. Locating and marking the main water valve will enable you to find and close it quickly should a water leak occur.

6. Where is my water meter located?: The water meter is usually located in the basement of the home. If the home does not have a basement, the meter may be in a heated crawl space, utility room, or garage. Some water meters are in meter pits that are located outside the home. Meter pits are typically within a found in the utility easement.

7. Does my water contain fluoride?: Yes, fluoride is added at our water treatment facility. We try to maintain an average fluoride concentration recommended to protect against tooth decay (between 0.9 mg/L and 1.1 mg/L).

8. When is the best time to water my lawn?: The best time to water grass is first thing in the morning. The air temperature is cooler, so less water evaporates. Also, the grass and other plantings can use the water to help withstand the hotter temperatures later in the day.

12. Who should I call if I have questions regarding my water bill?: Call the Utility Office at (937) 645-7350 during normal business hours which are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

13. Where does the City of Marysville get its drinking water?: Drinking water in Marysville comes from Mill Creek (via the recently constructed reservoir on Raymond Road) and high capacity groundwater wells that are approximately 200' deep.

14. Why and how often does the City flush the fire hydrants?: The City flushes fire hydrants every spring and autumn to get rid of and prevent the build up mineral constituents within our drinking water. "Spot flushing" is done the end of every month.
