Councilwoman Groat has called Marysville home since 1976 and has served on the Marysville City Council since 2008. She has also served on the Parks and Recreation Commission as well as the Public Affairs Committee where she served as the Chairperson. Currently, she serves on the Public Safety Service Committee in addition to her seat on City Council where she represents Ward 3. Councilwoman Groat attended Huntington East High School, graduating in 1972 and was the valedictorian. She attended Marshall University where she earned her undergraduate degree in 1976. Her degree is in Education for grades 7-12 in Mathematics, Latin and English. She was listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 1975 and 1976. She graduated with her Master’s Degree in Education from Wright State University in 1994 and has earned forty-five post-master’s hours in continuing education. She taught for thirty-six years at the High School level, teaching Math, Latin, English and ACT and SAT test preparation. She was also a part-time associate of the Richwood Banking Company from August 2017 – March 2020. While on Council, her goals are to see constant improvement of (an already excellent) staff, fiscal responsibility of the City and continuous improvement of City/Resident communications. Councilwoman Groat enjoys reading, keeping up with the dust, maintaining a relationship with her husband and their children, serving and attending church and volunteering at the Marysville Food Pantry. She and her husband Jeff, a retired Marysville Police Officer, have been married for over forty years. The couple has three children, two daughters and one son, in-laws and grandchildren.
